Man in Mask Robs Local Scrap Yard

According to an article by KTXS 12, Abilene police have taken a man and his girlfriend into custody for robbing a scrap yard. The male suspect is also accused of wearing a mask that was popularized by the Scream movie series when he robbed the business. The two suspects, Gary Bien and Ericha Sanchez, were arrested on Monday, October 9th on aggravated robbery charges. This is in conjunction with the September 6th robbery of A-1 Core and Metal that is located on 301 North Treadaway. Witnesses reported that Bien pointed a long silver barrel revolver at the clerk and demanded a money bag. The clerk did not hand the bag over and so Bien walked back there and took the bag himself. Then a witness said that the gunman got into a Chevy Impala that had a dent on the side of the door and yelled for the driver to hurry up and go. They also described the driver as a female with blonde hair.

Earlier before the robbery, a delivery driver for the yard said that Bien had asked to use his cell phone because his car was broken down and he needed a ride. Police traced the number back to Sanchez who had blonde streaks in her hair. Also, a witness who had seen the dented impala saw the car at a local store and told police. Authorities reviewed the security camera footage from the store and saw that both Bien and Sanchez were there together.

Bien’s bond was set at $150,000. Sanchez’s bond is $35,000.

Workplace Incidents

When you get a job, one of the last things you are probably hoping to deal with is a gun-toting robber. While some jobs are more at risk for this kind of criminal activity than others, this kind of thing doesn’t happen at most places of employment. At a scrap yard or other places that require a lot of work with heavy metal objects, you will be more likely to have an accident that is related to your job duties. A collection of materials could have been stacked poorly and fall over or you could trip over a poorly placed item. Slip and fall accidents are very common in the workplace as well as in commercial businesses. The thing about work injuries is that there are some different things that can affect how you are treated after you are injured. If your company subscribes to workers compensation insurance is one of the things to consider when deciding how to approach an on-the-job injury.

It would be safe to say that most employers don’t want something bad to happen to their employees even if it is only out of concern for any legal situations that may arise in the event of an accident. With this being said, some employers might let safety take a back seat to production just to make a deadline or quota. No matter how safely you feel like you can work at your job, there may be someone else who is careless and does not share your same desire to work safely.
