Two Killed in Callahan County Crash

According to an article by Big Country Homepage, a couple from Albany lost their lives in an accident with an 18-wheeler that was hauling gasoline. The accident happened on SH 36 south of Baird around 6 PM on June 6.

The couple was reportedly hit by an 18-wheeler as they failed to yield at a stop sign at an intersection. This collision caused the gasoline inside the tanker truck to explode and eject the driver of the car outside the vehicle. Luckily, the truck driver only received minor injuries even though he was thrown from the wreck.

No one is sure why the Grahams failed to yield at the stop sign since the crash is under investigation at the moment. It is apparent, however, that the 18 wheeler would not have been able to stop in time or avoid this collision, according to the investigation.

Tragic 18-Wheeler Accident

Accidents with big trucks happen more often than we would all want to admit. In this particular accident, the truck driver does not appear to be at fault. However, this occurrence is not always the case. Truck drivers are on the road for extended periods of time, and this can lead to accidents if the drivers become fatigued. There are many reasons why a driver may not be getting enough sleep like unrealistic delivery deadlines, or they may just be ignoring the guidelines for resting. No matter what, there is no good excuse for a professional licensed truck driver to work until they become fatigued. This dangerous action puts the lives of anyone they come across at risk. The sad truth about 18-wheeler accidents is that usually, the drivers of the passenger vehicles are the ones that bear the brunt of the wreck. The sheer size and mass difference between the average car and a big rig can be the catalyst for a deadly crash.
