Tragic Loss
Losing a loved one is always a hard thing to handle. When the circumstances surrounding the loss of a loved one are questionable, the sorrow and feeling of loss may be compounded by feelings of anger and frustration. When you have suddenly lost a family member and you feel like it may not have been the fault of the decedent, you may wonder who you can talk to.
Wrongful Death
When a person is killed because of the criminal, negligent, or careless misconduct of another person or entity, the death may be considered a case for wrongful death. The surviving members of the family may be able to take legal action against the party accused of the misconduct. Often, wrongful death cases follow criminal trials in civil court, but this is not always the case. A prime example of this would be the civil court jury’s decision against O.J. Simpson regarding the death of his estranged wife.
We know that there is no amount of money that is going to bring back a lost family member. However, there are certain expenses and possible financial obligations that coincide with the loss of life. Funeral costs and final medical bills can add up in a hurry. If the decedent was the main or sole breadwinner for the family, then the financial repercussions of the death can be felt for a long time to come. For this reason, you may want to talk to an attorney who has experience in these types of cases.
