Officer Shot in the Line of Duty
A recent article by the Abilene Reporter-News stated that an officer was shot Monday, December 4th in San Marcos while he was attempting to serve a warrant. Police identified the man as Officer Kenneth Copeland, a 58-year-old who has been with the department for 19 years. Statements issued by officials regarding the incident say that Officer Copeland was wearing a protective vest when he was shot multiple times by the unnamed assailant. The suspect engaged in a brief standoff with police and was also shot, although they do not know if the wound was self-inflicted or cause by police fire. Copeland was taken to Central Texas Medical Center where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Dangerous Work
Most people would agree that doing police work can be highly dangerous at times. While this story is indicative of this reality, police are not the only people who put themselves in danger to earn a living. People who work jobs in the construction or oil and gas industries can also face dangers when they are trying to work. These deadly incidents that can leave families grieving are devastating to the surviving members of the family. The loss of a loved one can put a severe financial strain on the people who are affected by the lost family member. This burden can be made even heavier when the person who was killed was the sole source of income for the family. At the Galbreath Law Firm, we understand that no amount of money is going to replace a family member who was taken prematurely. However, it may help you to recover from the expenses that may have been incurred as a result of hospital visits and final preparations.
